Life Celsius, in the 6th Conference on Membrane Bioreactors

Last June 14th, the University of Barcelona hosted the 6th BRM Conference, an appointment in which various experts from the water treatment field, including those responsible for the European Life Celsius Project, addressed issues related to the operation of Membrane biological systems.

Anaerobic membrane bioreactors

On this occasion, anaerobic membrane bioreactors (An-BRM), a well-established technology whose role will be relevant in the future, took on special importance, as was evident in the day.

Sixteen papers were presented in five sessions dedicated to An-BRM, to direct osmosis – a technology that continues to grow – to pretreatments for membrane systems, to new advances in membrane bioreactor systems and to other treatments that use Membranes, amongst others, including ultrafiltration, electrocoagulation and BRM with oxygen.

Precisely the treatment of wastewater from anaerobic membrane bioreactors (AnBRM) is being successfully tested in a pilot plant installed in the W.W.T.P. of Archena (Murcia).

OptiAnMBR and Life Celsius

The plant consists of a first phase launched under the OptiAnMBR project, supported by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and developed by Acciona Agua, the Regional Entity for Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment of the Region of Murcia (ESAMUR) and the Technological Center for Energy and the Environment (CETENMA), and a second part corresponding to the European Life Celsius project.

María del Mar Micó, director of Life Celsius, presented at the University of Barcelona conference, results related to the phase of elimination of organic matter, in particular, the effects of flux-improving substances in the AnMBR system.

Water cycle Professionals

The meeting also brought together professionals from private management of the integral water cycle, such as Cadagua, FCC and Acciona, as suppliers of membranes and chemical additives, as well as representatives of public entities such as the Catalan Water Agency, and members of the academic community.
And other projects financed by the European Union also presented their results on this day, such as LifeWOGAnMBR, LifeMEMORY or MIDES, funded by the H2020 program.
